Owens River Water Trail

Description

The County of Inyo proposes to implement the Owens River Water Trail Project within the Lower Owens River floodplain from Lone Pine Narrow Gauge Road south to State Route 136, just east of Lone Pine. The project would allow recreational access for non-motorized watercraft (kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and canoes) on an approximately 6.3-mile segment of the Owens River, representing approximately 10 percent of the newly rewatered, 62-mile Lower Owens River. The project would remove emergent vegetation and excavate within the river channel to remove occlusions and establish a continuous navigable waterway, and would develop boat launch and take-out facilities with limited amenities (vault restroom, wildlife-resistant trash receptacles, and signage). The project area is owned by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The County would provide ongoing maintenance of the water trail.
