Document Description
The Owens River Water Trail (ORWT) is a 6.3-mile non-motorized water trail on the Lower Owens River, located approximately 10 miles south of the City of Bishop. The project involves removal of tule and bulrush vegetation occlusions and beaver dam remnants to open a navigable 15-foot-wide channel; construction of an ADA-accessible boat launch facility at Lone Pine Narrow Gauge Road (parking, vault restroom, interpretive kiosk); construction of a boat take-out facility near State Route 136 (parking, restroom, kiosk); installation of half-mile safety and mileage markers; and semi-annual vegetation maintenance for 20 years. The project is located on land owned by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The ORWT is the first ADA-accessible water trail of its kind in the western United States and is specifically designed to provide all-abilities recreational access for non-motorized watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards.
