- Title
- Vulcan Materials New Dredging Project
- Description
- Vulcan Materials Company proposes new dredging in the Petaluma River at the vessel berth area adjacent to Vulcan Materials property at 210 Landing Way, Petaluma, CA. The purpose of the Project is to improve navigational access to the berth area. Proposed dredging would cover a .5 acre area to a depth of -8 feet below mean lower low water elevation with an over-depth allowance of 1-foot, and would remove 2,519 cubic yards of material. Dredging would be performed using a clamshell dredge, which includes a work barge with a crane mounted on the deck of the barge with a clamshell bucket. The dredged material would be placed from the clamshell bucket into a scow barge for storage and transport of the dredged material. All dredged material would be transported by barges via the Petaluma River from the dredge area to a disposal location in the San Francico Bay region under the purview of the San Francisco Bay Dredge Materials Management Office. The disposal sites have existing state and federal authorization for sediment disposal, and include the San Pablo Bay Disposal Site (SF-10), the Cullinan Ranch Restoration Project site, and the Montezuma Wetlands Restoration Project site. Any debris encountered during dredging would be transported by barge to Pillar Point Harbor and then transported by truck for disposal at the Ox Mountain Landfill in Half Moon Bay.
