Document Description
This project will install a three-legged roundabout at the intersection State Route 255 and New Navy Base Road using modular components, including modular curbing on the roundabout approaches and a modular truck apron. The project will also include the installation of channelizers in key locations and updates to existing sign packages to provide advance warning of the roundabout. The existing asphalt pavement structure at the intersection and approaches will be grinded and overlayed to provide a stable surface for the modular materials to be bolted on to. To accommodate mounted cyclists and pedestrians, the roadway geometry will be extended slightly at spot locations to provide a paved shoulder surrounding the roundabout. Existing beacons at the intersection will be replaced and new signs and striping will be placed. All work would be in the Caltrans right of way. A roundabout is needed due to a historic collision pattern at the intersection of New Navy Base Road and SR 255. The purpose of this project is to improve the intersection.
