Project Info
- Title
- Webb Tract Wetland Restoration Project
- Description
- The project will restore approximately 2,320 acres of wetlands habitat (1,900 acres emergent wetland habitat + 110 acres open water + 310 acres transitional seasonal wetland habitat) within Webb Tract. The wetlands habitat will benefit native Delta wildlife, such as migratory waterfowl and the federally-listed and state-listed giant garter snake (Thamnophis gigas) by increasing the availability of aquatic foraging and refugia habitat for the species. The project is also expected to benefit western pond turtle (Actinemys marmorata) by expanding suitable aquatic foraging habitat for the species, tricolored blackbird (Agelaius tricolor) by increasing the extent of dense cattails and tules, and sandhill crane (Grus canadensis) by expanding the extent of potential foraging and loafing habitat. The project includes construction of new wetland management units with associated berms and new infrastructure (i.e., weir boxes, flap gates, culverts). Additionally, existing siphons will be used to supply water to the wetland management units and existing District Canals will be used for drainage. The project could also generate carbon credits that could be used to offset emissions under Metropolitan’s Board-adopted Climate Action Plan or sold on the open market to fund ongoing maintenance activities.
