Deep Rose Geothermal Exploration Project Supplemental Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration

Description

The proposed project seeks CalGEM's approval to drilling, testing, and monitoring up to four (4) exploratory geothermal wells, with the goal of exploring, locating, and verifying existence of commercially viable geothermal resources in the Coso Known Geothermal Resource Area (KGRA). The project area is located in the northwest region of the Coso KGRA (now designated by BLM as “the Haiwee Geothermal Leasing Area” or (HGLA) in the vicinity of Southern McCloud Flat in Inyo County. The well pad would be located within Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 16 of Township 21 South, Range 38 East, Mount Diablo Meridian. The Section 16 land is owned by the State of California and administered by California State Land Commission (CSLC). All other lands within Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 are administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Project construction activities will include constructing a well pad and drilling four geothermal wells, a new road, a water storage area and four traffic turnouts; upgrading existing roads; installing a booster pump station and plastic piping; and trucking water from a private water source. Drilling will be conducted 24 hours per day, seven days per week by a crew of approximately 10 workers and will require a maximum of 200 days to complete drilling one well. Up to four wells will be drilled, within two years of initiating the revised Project.
