Document Description
The Al Shugart Dog Park ("project") is being proposed by the City of Scotts Valley to develop a dog park with additional park amenities. The project site is located on two partially-developed parcels (APNs 023-241-21 and -22) and one undeveloped parcel (023-241-11) at 400 Glenwood Drive in the City of Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz County. Improvements are proposed on approximately 5.64 acres of the property (“project site”). The project site consists of vacant open space and a small parking lot located in the southwest corner of the project site. The City proposes to develop a dog park with additional park amenities. The project would include improvements such as pet-proof fencing and dog park entry corrals; landscaping and irrigation. Pathway lighting along the existing multi-use pathway connecting to the project site and security lighting at the restroom is proposed. Park-user amenities would include the following: a 6,500 square-foot all-weather turf area; 9,000 square-foot area for small dogs; 28,000 square-foot area for large dogs; prefabricated restroom structure with two single use ADA-compliant stalls; park dedication monument; walking paths; benches, picnic areas, and seating areas; metal shade features; outdoor classroom; bike racks; drinking fountains; and, trash and recycling receptacles. The proposed project would require water service for drinking fountains, the restroom, and landscaping, and would connect to existing Scotts Valley Water District water service infrastructure near the project site. The proposed project would require lateral connections and routing to the City’s existing wastewater collection system, and would construct biotreatment planters for stormwater treatment and infiltration. The proposed project would involve the repair of an existing parking lot on Glenwood Road and parking lot expansion, resulting in a total of up to 42 spaces. The project site currently consists of vacant open space and a small parking lot located in the southwest corner of the project site.
