Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-SHA-66597-R1, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to Gregg Duralia. This project consists of the installation of rock slope protection (RSP) adjacent to Salmon Creek and is intended to stabilize approximately 323 linear feet of actively eroding streambank during high flow events. The project has been designed to minimize further bank degradation, reduce future sediment transport, and improve long-term channel and bank stability incorporating hard armoring. All RSP will be installed outside of the ordinary high-water mark (OHWM) within the primary floodplain of the stream. Existing trees will be preserved to the maximum extent possible, and erosion control measures will be installed in all disturbed areas. Stabilization efforts are designed to prevent encroachment upon the floodplain. Bank stabilization will consist of 299 cubic yards (CY) of ¼ ton or 263 CY of Class IV (D50 of 15”) RSP and 144 CY of Backing No. 2 RSP, installed over non-woven geotextile fabric within an excavated trench. The trench will be located approximately 7 feet outside of the OHWM, sized approximately 6 feet deep with a minimum base width of 2 feet, with 1.5:1 side slope. The trench will be excavated to a minimum of 1 foot below the channel bed to prevent future bank undermining, resulting in approximately 479 CY of excavated soil. RSP sizing follows the California Bank and Shore Rock Slope Protection Design report and the Highway Design Manual using a design velocity of 10 ft/s based on input from Pacific Hydrologic, Incorporated. Following grading and RSP installation, disturbed areas will be revegetated using sterile, weed free erosion control seed. The project will be monitored for five years to ensure the structure is performing as intended, no substantial erosion is occurring, and the site has stabilized. All work shall occur during dry conditions.
