Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
15301
Reasons for Exemption
Section 15301 of the State CEQA Guidelines, titled “Existing Facilities,” reads as follows: “Class 1 consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The types of “existing facilities” itemized below are not intended to be all-inclusive of the types of project which might fall within Class 1. The key consideration is whether the project involved negligible or no expansion of use.” The proposed project to replace the existing roof constitutes a minor alteration of a proposed private structure with no expansion of existing or former use, as there will be no change in use and no change in the buildings’ gross square footage. Therefore, the project is exempt from CEQA pursuant to Section 15301 of the State CEQA Guidelines.
