Document Description
Project proposes to replace existing wooden food lockers with metal boxes and install predator proof trash cans within Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area to provide predator proof storage and disposal for all human-introduced sources of food and reduce unwanted encounters with bears as well as the unintentional feeding and attraction of corvids. Over the next 2 -3 years, approximately 170 wooden food storage boxes located within three (3) campgrounds will be replaced with metal food lockers with a designated “predator proof” design and will meet the requirements for ADA compliance in terms of height, reach and pounds of operating force. Installation of the food lockers will be completed either by placing the food locker on metal posts cemented into 12-in x 12-in. holes or excavating to pour a cement pad and bolting the food locker to the pad. Predator proof trash cans will be installed using the same concrete slab method as some of the food lockers.
