Document Description
The project involves careful surveying, marking and clearing of undesirable overgrown vegetation (currently increasing fire danger) on the south levee and river islands for fuel reduction and public safety. Once appropriate clearing has taken place, regular routine vegetation management will follow. There is no expansion of use and work is limited to hand clearing in existing public and private rights-of-way. There will be no work in the river itself to avoid possible conflicts with salmon spawning. Prior to clearing all scenic or protected trees, native plants, and sensitive habitats will be pre-surveyed and marked for avoidance. No nesting birds are in season at this time. The focus will be on eliminating invasive vegetation, on fire protection, public safety - the area is a hotbed of illegal encampments in areas well screened from public view and clearing will make the area less attractive for illegal camping and more attractive and safe for park/recreational use. No heavy mechanical equipment will be used.
