Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 4 (Minor Alterations to Land) Section 15304(i) and Section 15300.2(c)
Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project involves the fuel management and maintenance of vegetated high fire hazard areas. Class 4 consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation, including grading, paving, and trenching where the surface is restored, and which do not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes. Fuel management activities within 30 feet of structures to reduce the volume of flammable vegetation…and within 100 feet of a structure if the public agency having fire protection responsibility for the area has determined that 100 feet of fuel clearance is required due to extra hazardous fire conditions. The proposed project meets these criteria. Additionally, pursuant to Section 15300.2(c) of Title 14 of the California Code of Regulations, there are no unusual circumstances in respect to the proposed project for which staff would anticipate a significant effect on the environment and, therefore, the proposed project is categorically exempt from the provisions of CEQA.
