Document Description
Tuolumne County in cooperation with Caltrans, proposes to replace the existing Old Wards Ferry Bridge crossing Curtis Creek (Bridge No. 32C0017). The replacement bridge will be constructed on the existing horizontal alignment with a slightly lowered profile grade to minimize the approach roadway work. The new bridge will consist of a 61-foot long, 26-foot wide, single-span, cast-in-place, prestressed concrete slab superstructure supported on seat type abutments founded on cast-in-drilled-hole concrete piles. The new bridge will span Curtis Creek, so no new footings will be placed in the creek.

Reasons for Exemption
The project would replace the existing Old Wards Ferry Bridge to improve safety within the corridor. Construction controls and regulatory permits will protect migratory birds protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, prevent the spread of invasive species, protect waters of the US and/or State, and ensure unanticipated cultural resources discovered on-site during construction are protected. The existing bridge is not eligible for the National Register or CA Register as a historic structure. No hazards or scenic resources would be impacted.
