Document Description
The proposed project would pave existing unpaved roadway shoulders along nine roadway segments totaling approximately 16.9 miles within existing Madera County and City of Madera rights-of-way. Improvements would include construction of approximately four-foot-wide asphalt concrete shoulders on each side of existing two-lane roadways, placement of shoulder backing material, and associated grading and construction activities. The project would add approximately 20.6 acres of paved shoulder area within existing roadway corridors to improve roadway safety, reduce roadway edge deterioration, and reduce fugitive dust emissions. Construction would occur over an approximately 36-week period using standard roadway construction equipment. No travel lane widening, roadway capacity increases, or increases in traffic volumes are proposed. The Initial Study of the IS/MND evaluates the potential effects of the Project and concludes that, with implementation of mitigation measures identified in the Initial Study, the Project would not have a significant effect on the environment. A mitigation monitoring and reporting program (MMRP) including the mitigation measures identified in the Initial Study will also be considered for adoption by the Chief of Development Services.
