Document Description
The District proposes to reconstruct a failed water flow regulating structure within the St. Johns River. A new concrete pad will be installed for the placement of the pneumatically actuated gates, which will span the entire width of the existing St. Johns River channel on the new concrete pad. The gate system relies on an airbladder to inflate and raise or deflate and lower the gate system and is composed of a gate panel, anchoring system, air bladder, hinge flap, clamp casting, seals, and retraining straps. The Project will be designed to meet the flow capacity of 8,000 cubic feet per second. The pneumatic gate is designed to be low maintenance, allowing large debris, tree logs or stumps to pass with flowing water without any blockage. The gates will allow the flow to be regulated during normal operations by inflating the air bladder. The concrete pad will be designed to allow heavy equipment like excavators and trucks to access the gates in the event of an emergency. The gates and air bladder will only be accessible during dry seasons or when there is no flow in the river channel. Construction is anticipated to take 180 days and will occur when the St. Johns River is largely dry.
