Document Description
The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) is proposing to install a telemetric weather station on existing irrigated pastureland. The weather station will consist of seven sensors measuring solar intensity, precipitation, wind direction, wind speed, air temperature, ground temperature, and relative humidity. All sensors will be mounted on an aluminum tripod secured to the ground with six 12" nails, with the exception of the ground temperature sensor, which will be buried approximately 6 to 8 inches below the ground surface. To protect the weather station from livestock, eight cattle panels will be installed around the station to form an approximate 16' x 16' enclosure. The panels will be secured to t-posts driven up to 18" into the ground. All installation activities will be conducted using hand tools and will result in minimal ground disturbance.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed weather station will provide real-time weather data made publicly available through the California Irrigation Management Information System (CIMIS) website. Installation will result in minor ground disturbance within an actively disturbed pasture area. The proposed activities qualify for a categorical exemption under CEQA Guidelines 15306. Information Collection. The project will not require tree removal and will not result in a significant impact to the environment. Additionally, none of the exceptions to the categorical exemptions identified in CEQA Guidelines Section 15300.2 apply.
