FFA Sierra Nevada Communications, FIBER 108 – Strawberry Summer Hill

The FIBER 108 – Strawberry Summer Hill project, via Sierra Nevada Communications, will deploy the following amounts of last-mile fiber and four miles of middle mile fiber. It will include an underground vault to be installed for the MMBI at the entrance to Peter Pam on Highway 108. The underground run from the end of the SNC fiber trunk line at Cold Springs (near Mia's restaurant) will require a vault at the start of that run to receive aerial feed. From there, hand-holes will be installed every 600' of underground run down to Old Strawberry Road, down to the first pole on Old Strawberry Road and along the 1.78-mile underground fiber trunk from Strawberry School to the SNC head end. Approximately 3.34 miles of Underground fiber (66%) with approximately 1.73 miles of aerial fiber (34%) for a total of about 5.07 miles. These 5 miles of new fiber construction (with lengthy underground conduit trunk lines adding significant cost) actually links to another 12 miles of existing buried and existing aerial and coax to upgrade over 488 locations from unserved or underserved status. Accordingly, the cost per new fiber is high (over $270k/mile) but the cost per upgraded location is very low (under $3,000 per location). In addition to this project providing up to 5,000/5,000 Mbps will provide service to 162 Unserved Households. The project will serve 632 Unserved Locations for the Mass Market. The project will benefit disadvantaged or Environmental and Social Justice communities; 100 percent of the unserved locations are in low-income areas. Sierra Nevada Communications will provide a low-cost broadband plan that meets the requirements in D. 22-04-055, Section 3, and has committed to maintaining its prices for at least ten years.
