Document Description
The project goals are to reduce wildfire risk to life, property, and natural resources while enhancing forest health and biodiversity. Project activities include manual and mechanical fuel reduction activities and fuelbreak maintenance. These efforts are designed to restore the fuelbreaks effectiveness, complimenting maintenance recently done on the Riverside County portion of the fuelbreak. The project will treat 262 acres of an existing fuelbreaks footprint. CAL FIRE has provided funding toward the implementation of this project via Grant #8GG23601.

Reasons for Exemption
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) does not apply to prescribed fire, thinning or fuel reduction projects undertaken on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) if the primary role of a state or local agency if providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed by the U.S. Forest Service under the Silverado Fuel Break Environmental Assessment (NEPA Project ID 12953) and the associated Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), issued in August 2013.
