Document Description
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) proposes various improvements within the California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) right of way along State Route 36 in Shasta County from post mile (PM) 4.9 to 6.75 near Platina as part of their Undergrounding and Wildfire System Hardening Program. These improvements would include the following:
Civil scope is comprised of HDD (7,523 LF). Open Trench (4,664 LF). There are approximately 13 subsurface vaults to be installed. One above ground facility identified on the drawings (SCADA Antenna Loc 43).

Location 44: Bore & trench to install 330' of Conduit and pull approx. 370' of 3-1/OA EPRCONC-ENCAP, 25kV (12 (kV) in 1-4" Duct.
There are 57 vegetation points (57 total units) proposed for vegetation work
within Caltrans right of way. This includes 36 brush removal points (36 units), 4
tree trim points (4 units), 4 wood removal points (4 units), and 13 tree removal
points (13 units) located inside Caltrans right of way.
Additionally, outside the right of way, there are 2 points (2 units). These points are
located off Caltrans right of way but may need to be accessed from Caltrans right
of way to be worked. Total points within and outside Caltrans right of way in the
application: 59 points (59 units).
Traffic control will be provided while performing the work. The shoulder and/or lane
closure will be taken in accordance with Caltrans standard traffic control plan T-13. Subject to change per site condition and pre-construction meetings.

Reasons for Exemption
The California Department of Transportation has determined that the project is categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15304 (Minor Alterations to Land) Class 4 (f) – Minor trenching and backfilling where the surface is restored. Class 4 consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry or agricultural purposes. The project would not have a significant effect on the environment.
