Reasons for Exemption
Class 1 allows for the repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public facilities, mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. Housing Units 1, 3 and 4 and Central School Building E-4 are contributors to the Porterville state Hospital Historic District which is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and is included on the state master list of historic resources. The project plans were reviewed by a Preservation Architect and determined to be in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation, and will not have an adverse effect on the historic nature of the resources. The State has confirmed no exceptions to the exemption apply.
