Document Description
Description The project will replace existing 245,000-gallon potable water storage tank With a new potable water storage tank of same capacity. Overview and Background The project will replace one of the two established 245,000-gallon potable water storage tanks at the Camanche South Shore Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The purpose of project is to remove the existing tank as it has reached its end of use, with the new tank ensuring reliable potable water storage for the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) owned Camanche South Shore (CASS) Recreation Area, located in Calaveras County (see Figure 1a). Project Purpose and Objectives The existing tank has reached its end of use, with flaking of interior coating, in addition to areas of rusting and leaks. Failure of the tank would result in environmental impacts, in addition to loss of potable water storage capacity for the CASS Recreation Area. Project Location The project site is located on an established gravel road near the CASS Water Treatment Plant, within the CASS Recreation Area (see Figure 1b). Project Characteristics The new tank will retain the 245,000 gallons storage capacity, in addition to conforming with the American Water Works Association requirements for potable water storage. The project complies with applicable California Building Codes and California Code of Regulations Title 8. Tank features include a 3-foot x 3-foot aluminum roof hatch, with a latch that can be padlocked, an exterior galvanized stairway, plus a galvanized safety railings around the top perimeter. The project also includes the installation of cathodic protection and interior forced air ventilation system. Existing instrumentation and respective electronics will be reinstalled once the new tank is in place. The project includes installation of a new foundation that meets current code for the anchoring of the new tank. Permits All work will be on EBMUD property, so no encroachment permits are necessary. Regulatory environmental permits are not required as there are no impacts to jurisdictional waters. Schedule Work is anticipated to start in late August 2026. The project is expected to be completed within seven months, dependent on the retained contractor's schedule. Work hours will be limited to weekdays with standard business hours of 7:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m. EBMUD Practices and Procedures Standard construction environmental and safety practices applicable to all EBMUD construction projects have been incorporated into the project and will implemented accordingly. A preconstruction survey will be conducted by a qualified EBMUD Biologist prior to start-up of work to ensure there are no impacts to sensitive species or habitat.
