Document Description
The project proposes construction of a 1.5-mile multi-use trail, beginning in the city of Sonora at State Route 49 and South Green Street, extending south down State Route 49 to an existing trail located near the Motherlode Fairgrounds. In addition, a trail junction would be constructed at the State Route 49/Woods Creek Drive intersection, forming a T in the trail. The project can be broken into three sections: South Green Street to Woods Creek Drive, Woods Creek Drive to Motherlode Fairgrounds, and Woods Creek Drive to Snell Street. Project-wide improvements would consist of
construction of a Class I pedestrian and bicycle path, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements, and restriping portions of State Route 49 to narrow and shift the existing lanes.
The project consists of two alternatives which differ based on the alignment of the proposed trail behind the Woods Creek Rotary Park baseball field. Alternative 1 would shift the baseball field approximately 5 feet into the field to avoid impacts to Woods Creek. Alternative 2 would place a retaining wall and fill within Woods Creek to avoid impacts to the baseball field. All other improvements are consistent between the build alternatives
