Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project qualifies for a categorical exemption under CEQA Guidelines Section 15301 (Class 1, Existing Facilities} because it consists of repair, maintenance, and minor alteration of existing playgrounds, parking lots, driveways, and fire lanes involving negligible or no expansion of use; Section 15302 (Class 2, Replacement or Reconstruction) because areas to be resurfaced and replaced with asphalt will be located on the same sites and have substantially the same purpose as existing conditions; Section 15304 (Class 4, Minor Alterations to Land) because the project involves minor alterations to land and vegetation including tree trimming and root management with no removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees; and Section 15311 (Class 11, Accessory Structures) because the shade structure and signage at La Mirada Elementary School are accessory structures to the existing campus. Additionally, the proposed project has been reviewed under CEQA Guidelines §15300.2 and does not trigger any exceptions to categorical exemptions, including no impacts to sensitive environments, scenic highways, historical resources, or hazardous waste sites, and no cumulative or significant impacts due to unusual circumstances.
