Document Description
The Klotz Cemetery Project is designed to maintain and protect an important local cemetery within Cal Fire’s Noble Demonstration State Forest and will include only minor vegetation removal by agency or contract led hand crew. Treatments may be conducted by hand and or a masticator/ chipper. Targeted vegetation to be removed includes sapling to pole sized trees and shrubs currently encroaching on the cemetery. Operations will be conducted any time after the acceptance of the exemption, except for when saturated soil conditions are present. Wood chips will be piled for use to create paths in the cemetery or spread out across the ground outside the cemetery. A small hand crew clearing minor vinca will be the only activity taking place within the cemetery. Outside of the cemetery fence, hand crew and masticator/ chipper and will be used to create a 15–20-foot buffer around the cemetery. Following vegetation removal, a ground penetrating radar survey of less than 1 acre will be conducted to locate evidence of unmarked graves inside the cemetery and any other unmarked graves located outside the cemetery. A Cal Fire archaeologist will be present during all Project Activities.

Reasons for Exemption
Reasons Project is Exempt: Field review by CAL FIRE staff confirmed that no exceptions apply that would preclude the use of a notice of exemption for this project. The Department has concluded that no significant environmental impact would occur to aesthetics, agriculture and forestland/timberland, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, energy, geology and soils, greenhouse gas emissions, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology and water quality, land use planning, mineral resources, noise, populations and housing, public services, recreation, transportation/ traffic, utilities and service systems, or to wildfire. Documentation of the environmental review completed by the Department is kept on file at CAL FIRE CNR Headquarters, 3743 Electro Way, Redding, CA 96002.
