Project Description
Project Location:
Linne Road and Chrisman Road: Includes intersection and approaches. See attached Vicinity Map.
Project Justification:
The intersection of Linne Road and Chrisman Road receives a high volume of truck traffic and has an elementary school on the southeast corner. The thermoplastic traffic striping and pavement markings show a great amount of wear and need to be replaced. The County is using the opportunity to test the durability of two different products, one being traditional thermoplastic and the other being preformed thermoplastic tape. The cost versus durability will then be evaluated over the next several years, to determine which is the best option for future use in similar conditions.
Scope of Work:
The project will consist of:
1. Grinding and replacing existing thermoplastic striping and pavement markings.
Environmental Setting:
In these portions of the San Joaquin County, land usage is primarily agricultural.
There are many large trees adjacent to the project area. Nesting and migratory birds, protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, may nest within these trees. Furthermore, the Swainson’s Hawk, a raptor species of concern within the State of California and listed as threatened may nest adjacent to or within the project area. A pre-construction survey for nesting Swainson’s Hawks and other migratory birds is recommended if construction is scheduled to occur from February 15th to September 1st.
Beneficiaries:
The public will see increased safety and fewer hazards with these new traffic striping and pavement markings. Overall, there will be reduced maintenance concerns and more reliability within the project area.
