Document Description
CAL FIRE would provide funding to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to implement restoration treatments following ground disturbing activities and biomass sales under the 2023 Butte Creek and Larabee Buttes Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Fire Resiliency CE (DOI-BLM-CA-N030-2023-0011-CX) on up to 885 acres of BLM lands south of Larabee Valley. Manual treatment activities include seeding, seedling/plug planting, and post-planting maintenance activities, such as browse protection, mulching, and shading. Species would be chosen based on project sites, with special consideration to promoting minor species and ecosystem types, while also considering climatic shifts in species distribution. These treatments are expected to promote habitat restoration, ecosystem resilience, and establishment of desirable species.

CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed under the NEPA Butte & Larabee Planting Categorical Exclusion (DOI-BLM-CA-N030-2026-0009-CE), signed June 16, 2026.
