Document Description
The existing Grossmont Reservoir inlet and outlet flow meters were installed during the original reservoir construction in 1978 and have been in continuous service for over 45 years. In 1995, the District’s staff replaced the original electronic controls of the meters. Over the past several years, the flow meter electronics have started failing again, giving intermittent false results. Both meters are in-line within the existing 48-inch diameter inlet and outlet steel piping and have reached the end of their useful life. These flow meters are essential in recording water demands within the distribution system and must be replaced. A recent corrosion assessment was performed by the District’s as-needed corrosion specialist. The outlet vault piping is corroded and needs to be replaced. The project involves the excavation and shoring of the 15-foot deep vault, removal of and replacement of approximately 10-feet of 48-inch diameter piping. A new manway will be installed for improved ventilation and to meet safety requirements.
The Project will benefit the District’s customers by helping the District to maintain reliability of service and avoid potential pipeline failures. The Project will restore and replace deteriorated facilities and does not involve expansion of the existing use.
