Pier T Marine Terminal Redevelopment Project

The proposed Project would redevelop and expand the existing Pier T marine terminal at Berths T130 through T140 to optimize efficient cargo-handling operations, transition to zero-emission equipment, and extend and modernize the existing wharf to accommodate future container volumes and safe navigation of large container vessels. The existing 382-acre terminal would expand to approximately 500 acres and would potentially include areas adjacent to the existing marine terminal on Pier T, Pier T Echo, and the Navy Mole, as well as areas north of the existing marine terminal on Pier S and Pier S West (north of Seaside Way and west of Pier S Ave). The proposed Project would be constructed in phases over an estimated period of 17 years. The Pier T marine terminal would continue to operate during construction activities. At full build-out, the Pier T marine terminal would include approximately 250 acres of container yard with 81-yard stacking crane blocks; four vessel berths occupying nearly 60 acres; administration, maintenance and repair buildings and other facilities; truck gate complex; on-dock railyard along the northern perimeter of the terminal; and a storage and staging railyard on the Navy Mole. The modernized terminal would be able to handle up to 3.3 million containers annually, or approximately 6.1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The expanded on-dock railyard would have the capacity to handle at least one-third of the terminal’s container throughput.
