The Sunnyvale School District (SSD) proposes to modernize and upgrade existing
buildings and facilities (e.g., new windows, bathrooms, utilities, and lighting) and demolish/replace Buildings P and G with a new 10-classroom building and outdoor learning space area. Buildings P and G contain a total of 12 classrooms. Therefore, the project would not increase the existing number of classrooms on the campus. The school would remain operational during construction and require temporary housing for six classrooms.

Reasons for Exemption
The Cherry Chase Elementary School Campus Modernization project would not introduce a new use, expand an existing use, or increase enrollment at the Cherry Chase Elementary School campus. The project would not increase the existing number of classrooms on the campus. Therefore, the proposed project would not increase student capacity by more than 25% or ten classrooms.
Per section 15300.2 of the CEQA Guidelines, it has been determined the project is not located on a hazardous waste site, and the project would not affect environmental resources of hazardous or critical concern, result in a significant impact due to unusual circumstances, damage scenic resources, affect an historical resource, or result in a cumulative impact. For these reasons, the project is exempt from the provisions of CEQA.
