The United States Naval Air Station Lemoore proposes to request assistance from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to perform prescribed burns within approximately 105 acres of Naval Air Station Lemoore. The prescribed burn will aim to reduce the accumulation of dry annual grasses, reduce wildland fire starts, and provide live fire training for Naval Air Station Federal Fire and cooperating agencies. The prescribed burn would occur annually between late spring and fall to maximize effectiveness. Approximate timing of the burn is dependent on fuel type, weather conditions and prescription burn requirements.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project is statutorily exempt from CEQA under Public Resources Code (PRC) § 4799.05(d)(1). The California Environmental Quality Act does not apply to prescribed fire, thinning, or fuel reduction projects undertaken on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. All Naval Air Station Lemoore Burn Assist project activities are included in the Record of Categorical Exclusion signed 2023.
