Document Description
The Eldorado National Forest (ENF) is proposing management actions to respond to conditions created by the 2021 Caldor Fire. The Caldor Fire burned in El Dorado and Amador Counties, on the Placerville, Pacific, and Amador Ranger Districts of the Eldorado National Forest (ENF). The overall purpose of the Caldor Fire Restoration Project (Caldor FRP) is to reduce risk to public health while restoring a healthy, resilient, and diverse ecosystem to lands impacted by the 2021 Caldor Fire and surrounding areas, as well as managing ecosystem functions at a landscape-scale. Additionally, the project purpose includes reestablishing recreational opportunities diminished by the 2021 Caldor Fire.

Reasons for Exemption
CEQA does not apply to fuel reduction, reforestation, & habitat restoration projects undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the NEPA, if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. The proposed project was reviewed under the (1) Caldor Max Extent Project NEPA EA & DN-FONSI, signed December 12, 2025.
