Document Description
The project will repair and replace the existing articulated steel conduit connecting a horizontal directionally drilled (HDD) pipe to a Verizon manhole in the sandspit beach parking lot at Montaña de Oro State Park and will issue a Right of Entry permit to the contractor to perform the work. This activity is expected to last 14 days, during which time construction work zone will be fenced off from the public. Work will: - Locate existing telecommunication utilities by potholing; - Saw cut to remove asphalt surface over the ducts; - Reinforce and shore-up soils around the end of the existing HDD pipe with steel beams to create a secured access point 8-ft long x 4-ft wide x 6-ft deep; - Dig using an excavator, except within 5 feet of any working fiber, which then shall be dug by hand. - Detach and remove the existing articulated steel pipe for disposal; - Seal and cap end of the HDD pipe; - Install a 1-4-in. inside diameter schedule 40 PVC conduit at a typical depth of 4-ft from the beach manhole wall and stub at the wall of the shoring plates; - Backfill and compact soils around duct, compacting in 6-in. lifts with appropriate fill material; - Cover the 8-ft x 4ft x 6-ft secured access point with a 10-ft long x 6-ft wide x 1.25-in. thick steel plate, flush mounted to the existing asphalt elevation; and - When future cable is installed, the steel plate will be removed and secured access point will be restored to prior conditions with asphalt.
