Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed
Lake Alteration Agreement EPIMS Notification Number LAK-64924-R2, pursuant to Section
1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project Applicant, University of California Davis.
A temporary hypolimnetic oxygenation system (HOS) pipeline will be installed to deliver
compressed oxygen gas from the Clearlake Oaks County Water District property adjacent to
Clear Lake, along the District’s pier paralleling the water treatment plant’s intake pipes, and
into the lake. The intent of the HOS is to improve water quality conditions (increased
dissolved oxygen) for native fish. The in-lake components include two pipelines of 20,000
linear feet reaching from the pier around the west end of Rattlesnake Island and into the
deepest part of Oaks Arm where the oxygen diffusion takes place. The pipe will be
assembled in sections and floated from the beach into the lake until the entire pipeline is
assembled and ready to float by boat into position in the lake. The in-lake pipeline will then be
sunk to the bottom using concrete anchors. The concrete anchors for the in-lake pipeline will
rest on the top of the lakebed, with the diffuser line suspended approximately 1 to 3 feet
above the lakebed during operation. There will be no shoreline nor lakebed excavation or
construction.
