Document Description
The Pump Station Fire Hardening Project consists of defensible space and vegetation management improvements at 59 pump station sites throughout the District's service area to reduce fuel loads, improve fire resiliency, and protect critical water infrastructure serving over 200,000 residents. The project builds on a 2024 aboveground infrastructure fire hardening assessment conducted in collaboration with the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MWPA), which identified deficiencies and opportunities to improve wildfire preparedness around pump stations. Work would occur within Defensible Space Zones 0 and 1, extending up to 30 feet from structures or the nearest property line, and would include thinning vegetation, removing debris piles, reducing ladder fuels, and clearing vegetation using manual and mechanical methods. The project is intended to reduce wildfire intensity near facilities, improve defensibility, and support emergency access and fire suppression activities during wildfire events.
