Document Description
The overall objective of the proposed project is to implement hazardous fuels reduction along Highway 3 within the City of Yreka. Approximately 8.5 acres of pasture/grass/shrub is planned to be broadcast burned to increase resilience to wildfire, reduce invasive plant species, and restore native grasses. An associated objective is to create an opportunity for different organizations (the Shasta Valley RCD, the Siskiyou Prescribed Burn Association, the City of Yreka Fire Department and CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit) to work collaboratively to implement prescribed fire to lands in need of fuels reduction and restoration.

Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Class 4; 15304 (e) Minor Alterations to Land
Reasons for Exemption
Public Resources Code, Division 13, Chapter 6, Article 19, Section 15304 allows minor alteration of vegetation including fuel management activities to reduce the volume of flammable vegetation, provided the activities do not result in the taking of endangered, rare, or threatened plant/animal species, or cause significant erosion and sedimentation of surface waters. The project involves a low-intensity prescribed broadcast burn less than 10 acres. The planned burn will identify hazard mitigation tactics and ensure the conservation of ecological and cultural resources.
The prescribed burn will have low velocity and minimal heat, resulting in the combustion of fine fuels only. Minimal ground disturbance is expected from this amended project. A current CNDDB and USFWS search was conducted. The project as proposed will not have a negative impact upon any listed species of plant or animal with potential to be found within the project area. A current Archaeological records check was obtained. This project as proposed is not expected to result in a significant impact on the environment. Documentation of the environmental review is kept on file at Shasta Valley RCD, 215 Executive Court, Suite A, Yreka, CA 96097 – Attention Renee Main.
