Document Description
An inspection by Kern County in May 2022 identified insufficient cover material over the landfill waste. CDCR will repair three (3) disposal areas to provide sufficient cover material over waste areas failing to meet State regulatory requirements and correct deficient drainage and erosion controls posing a threat to groundwater. CDCR will perform some maintenance activities involving minor grading to improve drainage and control erosion. No sensitive environmental resources were noted during a reconnaissance-level field survey on June 29, 2022.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is categorically exempt from CEQA under the “Class 1” (14 CCR §15301) exemption per the CEQA Guidelines because the project involves negligible to no expansion of use. The project site is not in an environmentally sensitive area and none of the exceptions to this exemption are applicable. This is one of a class of projects that the Secretary for Resources has found does not have a significant effect on the environment and therefore is declared to be categorically exempt from the requirement for preparing an environmental document.
