Document Description
The project proposes the installation and/or reinstallation of fence alignments along the east and north faces of the Oil Pit at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park to improve safety and allow for safe access for park staff. All work will be confined to an existing stairway area and utilize holes, and targeted repairs will adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. The proposed work will do the following: On the East Face: • Install three (3) vertical boiler tubes sourced from on-site piles, and cut each tube so that the top of each tube will be 43-inches above the surface; • Impact-drive vertical posts into existing holes without further excavation or concrete encasement. • Cut four (4) boiler tubes to approx. 12-ft in length to serve as top and lower rails; • Use threaded “T”s and elbows to affix a top rail and weld the lower rails to the vertical posts; and • Backfill any remaining open earth with surrounding soil and rocks to restore the previous ground appearance. On the North Face: • Cut two (2) boiler tubes to approx. 10-ft in length and use threaded “T”s and elbows to affix the top rail and weld the lower rails to the vertical posts. No additional vertical posts are needed for this alignment as the north-most vertical posts of the east and west faces will be utilized.
