Document Description
To authorize an existing 927-foot long, 3 segment bridge constructed in 1914 and 1948 that predates the adopted plan of flood control in 1977. Segment A is a 50-foot-long Deck Plate Girder - Open Deck (DPGOD) at the northern approach, constructed in 1948. Segment B is a 3-span 481-foot-long Deck Truss Riveted - Open Deck (DTROD), constructed in 1948, spanning the channel with no in-channel piers. Segment C is a 13-span 396-foot-long DPGOD at the southern approach, constructed in 1914.

The project is statutorily exempt under the provisions of CEQA and the State CEQA Guidelines. The Board’s approval involves issuing a Board permit for replacement of an existing railroad bridge that is related to the institution or increase of passenger or commuter service of rail lines already in use, which is exempt under the statutory exemption of the California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15275(a).

The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 1, Existing Facilities categorical exemption (California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15301), because the activity consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use. No expansion of existing or former use will occur. Further, none of the exceptions to the exemption in California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15300.2 apply.
