Document Description
Perform pest exclusion and cleaning work on the historic Children's House and Caretaker's House in Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park to reduce health and safety risks posed by rodent infestations, including the transmission of zoonotic diseases (e.g. hantavirus, etc.) through droppings, urine, and bites. Work will:
• Install concrete and/or screen as needed on the buildings’ exteriors to eliminate openings around the existing concrete footings and/or foundation and around any exterior pipe and/or conduit openings;
• Apply mortar around the exterior chimney stones to close as needed to close existing openings. As best possible, match the new mortar to the current mortar color;
• Add wood trim around all exterior doors as needed to eliminate gaps and openings;
• Inspect and repair all accessible eaves throughout the building:
o Use screen to repair eaves to prevent entry for birds/bats/rodents; and
o Install Bat One-Way devices at the eaves as needed to allow bats to exit the building safely while not allowing reentry.
• Vacuum all accessible areas of concern (in the attics, interior of the building, and subareas) for rodent feces and debris and deodorize for rodent urine and sebum;
• Permanently remove existing excess debris caused by rodents/birds; and
• Conduct one-year trapping program, to include:
o Monthly service for rodent control; and
o Inspection to locate pests, identify the best control methods (including rodent traps and/or bait stations, fly control systems, etc.), remove trapped rodents, reset traps as needed.
