Document Description
Caltrans proposes a safety project in El Dorado County in Diamond Springs on State Route (SR) 49 Post Mile (PM) 11.65; the intersection of SR 49 and Odd Fellows Road. The purpose of this project is to reduce the number of severity of collisions involving pedestrians by installing Rectangular Rapid Flashing Bacon (RRFB), enhanced ladder-style crosswalk, additional intersection lighting, and American Disability Act (ADA) compliant curb extensions (bulbouts) and curb ramps. The project is needed as the existing intersection conditions include non-standard/non-ADA compliant pedestrian curb ramps (on westbound SR-49), inadequate intersection lighting, faded traffic strips, and pedestrian/vehicular visibility issues due to the combination of on-street parking and travel speeds through the area. To improve pedestrian safety, a new ADA-compliant curb extension (bulbout) is needed on eastbound SR-49, along with enhanced warning signs and pavement makings.
