Document Description
The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is providing funding to the Butte County Fire Safe Council to implement reforestation and restoration activities within 6,372 acres around Cohasset, California affected by the 2024 Park Fire. Treatments activities include (1) planting California native trees seeds and seedlings adapted to the projected local climate over the next 50 years, with or without site preparation, including herbicide-application, (2) leader-training existing hardwood resprouts to promote woodland development, and (3) processing pruned material by chipping and broadcasting on-site, lopping and scattering, piling and burning, or creating unburned wildlife habitat piles. In addition to restoring and reforesting severely burned areas, these treatments will provide long-term ecological benefits by reducing future wildfire risk to communities and local resources, accelerating forest recovery, promoting native plant and wildlife habitat, improving watershed and ecosystem function, and increasing resilience to future disturbances and changing climate conditions.
