Document Description
Approximately 60 acres of previously thinned forestland will be treated to maintain forest health and reduce wildfire risk. Targeted herbicide application will reduce the vigor of resprouting tanoak, huckleberry, broom, and other competing understory vegetation, generally 1 to 6 feet tall. The treatment will alter stand composition and stocking by controlling unwanted understory vegetation that is competing with released redwood and Douglas fir saplings and contributing to surface and ladder fuel continuity. Treatments will maintain the low fuel conditions created by prior thinning and move the stand toward improved structure, composition, and conifer growth. Herbicide use will be conducted by appropriately licensed personnel consistent with product labels and applicable DPR and County Agricultural Commissioner requirements.
