Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes repairing the roadway prism at the approach/departure of both the San Mateo and Dumbarton Bridges. The subbase at these location has been undermined due to subsurface failure caused by stormwater intrusion, thus causing the pavement to settle. Any future rain events will likely worsen and jeopardize the pavement section. The affected area is approximately 25 by 70 square feet. Geotechnical recommends the affected roadway sections near the approach and departure slabs be injected with polyurethane grout to fill any voids below the roadway. The roadway surface will then be ground and repaved after the grout injection with hot mix asphalt (HMA) (Type A). Temporary traffic control will be required during construction.
