Document Description
The Alameda County Public Works Agency is proposing to install a large underground trash capture device on Orange Ave near Rizzo Ave in the unincorporated community of Castro Valley, Alameda County, California, in an effort to achieve compliance with the 100% trash load reduction requirement as set forth in the County’s current Municipal Regional Stormwater Permit (MRP3) with the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board. The proposed project will require two excavations for a cast-in-place reinforced concrete diversion structure (roughly 18 feet wide by 23 feet long) and the trash capture structure itself (roughly 14 feet wide by 30 feet long) that will extend a maximum of 12 feet below existing grade. The improvements will be located all within the County Road Right-Of-Way. The diversion structure will direct low flow water carrying trash and debris from incoming 27-inch and 30-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipes (RCPs) to the underground trash capture structure, which will be installed in-line with an existing 36-inch diameter RCP. There will be no right of way acquisition. All traffic control measures and BMPs will be employed in the project to protect the environment.
