Document Description
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is proposing to lease an existing facility with approximately 16,756 sf distributed among five buildings. The space will be utilized for approximately 51 CAL FIRE personnel for fire suppression and other emergency incidents and will be utilized by both Contra Costa Fire Department and CAL FIRE. The space will be utilized year-round and will accommodate sleeping, eating, equipment storage, and training for all personnel. Interior tenant improvements will occur within the dormitory building to upgrade with restrooms and showers for staff.

Reasons for Exemption
The project proposes to lease existing structures. Only internal tenant improvements are proposed within one building. No other improvements are proposed and no impacts to special status species will occur. This project fits under Class 1, Section 15301, Existing Facilities. Class 1 projects consist of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The project consists of entering into a new lease for office space within an existing building. Field review by CAL FIRE staff confirmed that no exceptions apply that would preclude the use of a notice of exemption for this project. The Department has concluded that no significant environmental impact would occur to aesthetics, agriculture and forestland/timberland, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, energy, geology and soils, greenhouse gas emissions, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology and water quality, land use planning, mineral resources, noise, populations and housing, public services, recreation, transportation/ traffic, utilities and service systems, or to wildfire. Documentation of the environmental review completed by the Department is kept on file at 1131 S Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
