Reasons for Exemption
Class 1 exemption allows for the repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing public facilities, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. The project is limited to the replacement of membrane roofing system necessary to maintain a working facility. Buildings 12, 25 and the Firehouse are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and are included on the state master list of state-owned historic resources as a contributor to the Porterville State Hospital Historic District. The project scope includes replacement of existing roofing with a compatible roofing system at each building. The project plans were reviewed by a Preservation Architect and determined to be in conformance with the Secretary of Interior Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties. Therefore, the project will not have an adverse effect on the historic nature of the resource. The State has confirmed no exceptions to the exemption apply.
