Document Description
UC Davis will modify approximately 1.5 acres of landscaping, bike paths and sidewalks adjacent to the Chemistry Building and the Physical and Data Sciences Building. The project will demolish the existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and remove existing trees and landscaping. The project will replace these elements with new bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. The project also paves an asphalt vehicular path for fire truck access to the Chemistry District. Campus standard light poles will be installed along the restored pathways. Bicycle parking will also be added centrally to the area. Construction includes new paving, concrete and asphalt, pathway striping, and installation of lights.

This project qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1and Class 2 of the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Class 1 exemption applies to the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of the existing use. On a separate and independent basis, the Class 2 exemption applies to the replacement of existing facilities if located at the same location and having the same function as the previous facility. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
