Document Description
California State Parks - Angeles District proposes to implement the Malibu Creek State Park Liberty Canyon Fuels Reduction project within approximately 75 acres of Liberty Canyon at Malibu Creek State Park over the course of several years. The purpose of this project is to reduce accumulations of flashy fuels, enhance wildfire preparedness, support safe access for emergency response, and contribute to the long-term management of fire-adapted landscapes within Malibu Creek State Park. Prior to conducting project activities, surveys will be conducted by qualified State Parks Natural Resources biologists to protect sensitive species and cultural resources. Consultation will be conducted by qualified State Parks Cultural Resources personnel. Project activities will consist of mechanical thinning or chemical treatments of targeted vegetation to reduce fuel continuity and potential fire intensity. Treatments will be conducted by a combination of California State Parks staff and contracted field crews, such as the California Conservation Corps, using methods appropriate to site conditions and resource protection requirements.
