Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will issue an encroachment permit to Comcast to install new aerial and underground fiber optic cable along State Route 41 in Kings County. The purpose of the project is to connect fiber optic infrastructure located outside the Caltrans right-of-way. Work would occur along State Route 41 between postmiles 45.144 and 47.565 in unincorporated Kings County, north of the city of Lemoore.
Work for the project includes installation of aerial and underground fiber optic and vaults. 8,648 feet of fiber optic cable would be installed aerially on existing utility poles. This portion of the work would also include installation of 15 anchors and 8 new risers on existing poles. 3,019 feet of fiber optic cable would be installed underground within new 2-inch conduit. Of that, 2,620 feet of conduit would be installed via open trenching and 399 feet would be installed using horizontal directional drilling (HDD). Boring would occur between the edge of pavement and the limit of the Caltrans right-of-way, and would also extend beneath the roadway. The conduit would be installed at a depth of approximately 48 inches below the ground surface.One vault 30"X48"36" would be installed along the underground portion of the alignment.
The project would not require removal of trees. Ruderal vegetation along State Route 41 would be temporarily disturbed or removed during excavation of bore pits and vault installation, as well as from vehicle parking and construction staging. All work would occur during daytime hours; no night work is proposed. The maximum depth of excavation is 48 inches below the ground surface.
