Document Description
A cooperative effort to perform fuel reduction activities to reduce the potential for high severity wildfire in the wildland-urban interface. The purpose of the project is to safeguard existing adjacent communities from the potential of catastrophic wildfire and enhance forest health on Bureau of Land Management lands. The project will manually remove ladder fuels and trees with diameters less than 12 inches diameter at breast height and will extend approximately 10' from the edge of the road.

Reasons for Exemption
Tho Proposed Project was reviewed in its entirety under the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA). Under Public Resources Code. section 4799.05. subd. (d)(1) and (d)(1)(A), the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) does not apply to prescribed fire, reforestation, habitat restoration, thinning, or, fuel reduction projects, or to related activities included in the project description, undertaken, in whole or in part, on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire that have been reviewed under NEPA of 1969 (42 U.S.C, Sec. 4321 , et seq .) if the primary role of the local agency is to provide funding or staffing ,or those projects. The primary role of the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services is to provide staffing support to the Bureau of Land Management.
